About this expansion

Carcassonne: The Festival is a mini-expansion for 2–6 players, designed for games lasting around 45 minutes and released in 2011.

This compact addition contains 10 tiles, each marked with a 10th anniversary icon. When one of these tiles is placed, the player has an extra choice beyond the usual possibilities: they may place a follower as normal, or return a follower currently on the board to their supply.

That simple option gives the expansion a distinctive role in a Carcassonne game. Rather than only adding new tiles, The Festival introduces moments where a player can decide whether to commit a follower or reclaim one already in play.

Carcassonne: The Festival was originally packaged with Carcassonne: 10 Year Special Edition. It was also sold separately by some retailers, making the mini-expansion available beyond that special edition package.

The expansion is part of the Carcassonne series of games. A later release, The Festival II, uses the same tiles as the 10th anniversary edition, but marks them with a 15th anniversary icon and gives them new artwork.
