Simple GBoH

About this expansion

Simple GBoH is a streamlined rules system for two players, with scenarios designed to take about 90 minutes rather than the four hours or more often associated with the Great Battles of History series.

This is not a standalone game. Ownership of at least one Great Battles of History title is required, allowing you to use the simplified rules with scenarios from a range of GBoH games and expansion modules. The same core rules apply across supported settings, making it easier to move from one title to another.

Several detailed or time-consuming elements have been substantially reduced. Shock combat, missile combat, orderly withdrawal, elephants, and leader activation are simplified, while rout and rally, individual orders, strategy ratings, momentum, and trumping are removed entirely.

• Scenarios generally play in approximately 1–3 hours.
• Scenario information includes estimated playing times and balance assessments.
• Of the 53 scenarios, 11 are rated as “even.”
• The contents include the Simple Great Battles of History Rules, Charts, and a Playbook.

The Playbook contains SGBoH scenarios for Alexander, SPQR, Julius Caesar, Conquest of Gaul, and Cataphract. Other titles with included SGBoH scenarios and game-specific rules include Chandragupta, Chariots of Fire, Devil’s Horsemen, and Hoplite.

SGBoH does not support every GBoH title listed in the description, including Ran, Samurai, Lion of the North, and War Galley. GMT released a new Second Edition of Simple GBoH in March 2017.
