About this expansion

Bonsai: Wabi Sabi is an expansion for 1–5 players with an approximately 40-minute play time, released in 2024. Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi, it celebrates the imperfection of things and the beauty of constant change.

Designed to be combined with the base game, this expansion contains five modules that can be used together or separately. Each module introduces additional content or new ways to approach a game of Bonsai, giving players more choices while preserving the expansion’s focus on the changing nature of bonsai.

• New Shitakusa tiles: These tiles double the score of Goal tiles.
• New Goal tiles: Add further Goals to the game.
• Fifth-player content: Extend the game’s content for a fifth player.
• New Zen cards: Provide even more choices.
• New solo challenges: Add challenges for solo play.

Wabi-sabi encourages viewers to watch with their heart instead of their eyes, finding beauty in imperfection rather than expecting things to remain unchanged.
