About this expansion

MBT: BAOR is a 1–2 player expansion for MBT, with scenarios designed for games lasting approximately 360 minutes. It focuses on the British Army of the Rhine and its armored and mechanized forces on the North German Plain.

BAOR was formed at the conclusion of World War II from units of the British 21st Army Group. In the game’s setting, it is the command element of NATO’s Northern Army Group, with authority over British 1st Corps, West German 1st Corps, US III Corps, and French, Belgian, and Dutch contingents.

The expansion adds 10 new scenarios and four double-sided geomorphic mapboards, providing eight mapboard sides that can be combined with maps from the MBT base game and other expansions. Detailed British TO&Es are included, while the only required product for play is the MBT basic game.

  • British vehicles include Challenger 1, Chieftain Mk. 11, Warrior, Scimitar, Scorpion, Ferret Mk4, and Tracked Rapier.
  • British aircraft include the Gazelle AH.1, Harrier GR.3, Lynx AH.1, and Tornado GR.1.
  • Soviet additions include the T-55M, T-62MV, T-64BV, T-72AV, and T-80BV.
  • US additions include the M1 Abrams variants and M60A3 TTS.

A new leader system adds a flexible command dimension to MBT. Ten double-sided leader counters per force—30 counters in total for US, British, and Soviet forces—represent individuals with different ranks and skills.

Leaders can modify armor-piercing and general-purpose combat, close assault, hand-to-hand combat, overruns, suppression recovery, morale, spotting, and indirect-fire response. Players may add any number of leaders by mutual agreement, following the recommended command structure or creating a command arrangement suited to the battlefield.
