Legacy: Forbidden Machines is a 2013 expansion for 2–4 players that plays in about 90 minutes and requires Legacy: Gears of Time to play. As an Antiquitect, you travel through time to preserve technological progress while the Ancient Machine binds you to the present.

In the world of Legacy, the mysterious force called Vesper fuels the Ancient Machine. Now its dark energy is growing out of control, eroding the timeline and causing it to crumble faster than ever. To restore balance, the Antiquitects must break their oath and create the powerful contraptions known as the Forbidden Machines.

This first full expansion uses the familiar rules and components from the base game while introducing a new set of technology cards. Many of these cards feature the Activation mechanism, giving the player with the most influence over a technology the opportunity to activate it once during their turn.

Several fundamental technologies also introduce When Established effects, providing a boost as you establish your time-travel plans. These new mechanisms add another level of depth and strategy to the race to maintain history.

Built around hand-management, area control, variable player order, and scaling victory-point rewards, Legacy is a Eurostyle tabletop card game filled with tactical control and meaningful choices. Each game takes place over a fixed number of turns, challenging you to build your legacy before the timeline collapses.
