About this expansion
Bundeswehr: NATO’s Front Line is a two-player Assault Series module with an approximately 240-minute playing time, designed for use with Assault or Boots & Saddles. Released in 1986, it brings modern Bundeswehr forces and combat engineering to a tactical system built around platoon- and section-sized units.
The Assault game system uses 250-meter hexes and five-minute turns, creating a focused framework for modern battlefield operations. Bundeswehr adds a broad selection of vehicles and aircraft, including Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, Marder armored personnel carriers, and Luchs and Fuchs reconnaissance vehicles.
Players can also use Jaguar antitank vehicles, PAH-1 attack helicopters, and Gepard air defense guns. These forces are provided for use with Boots & Saddles, while the module itself requires Assault or Boots & Saddles to play.
Combat engineering is a central addition. The module includes simple but comprehensive rules covering every important aspect of the subject, giving engineering operations a defined place within the modern battlefield system.
- Three countersheets containing 480 5/8-inch counters
- Two 17 x 22-inch maps: Assault Series Maps E and F
- One six-page additional rules booklet
- Nine player aid charts
As the second Assault Series module, Bundeswehr: NATO’s Front Line expands the series alongside Assault, Boots & Saddles, Chieftain, and Reinforcements. Its combination of armored units, aviation, air defense, reconnaissance, and engineering rules makes it a substantial addition to the system.
