Shallow Regrets: The Fisher & the Frod is a 6-card solo expansion for one player, designed to play in about 15 minutes. Face Frod in a fishing competition and try to outscore him using the core game’s rules.

Frod’s turns combine scripted decision-making with a small selection of strategies. This keeps the opponent’s actions moving quickly while preserving the unpredictability and interaction of the core game. Multiple difficulty levels offer a challenge for anglers of different skill levels.

Set up the game as normal, while shuffling the Frod deck separately. Both you and Frod use a new fish layout: exhausted fish are placed in a column, while available fish form a row beside it. This arrangement helps clarify Frod’s abilities and fishing attempts throughout the competition.

Frod’s turn follows a consistent sequence:

• He uses one ability from the previous turn’s strategy card, if possible.
• A new strategy card is revealed to guide his fishing decisions.
• He fishes, catching the single largest fish he can with his available strength.
• He moves a fish from one shoal to another.

Game end and scoring follow the core game rules, with one important exception: Frod never takes a penalty for Foul fish. Plan your own fishing carefully, adapt to his strategy cards, and aim to finish ahead of him.
