About this expansion

Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game – The Mountains of Madness Asylum Pack is a 2008 supplemental card set for two players, designed for a 20-minute play time. It is themed around H.P. Lovecraft’s short novel about a doomed Miskatonic University research expedition to Antarctica.

This Asylum Pack brings the frozen setting of The Mountains of Madness to Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game through a collection of fixed cards. Its content focuses on the expedition’s hostile environment, strange discoveries, and the dangers waiting beyond the ice.

The set features a range of Antarctic-themed elements, including:

  • Polar events
  • Alaskan Sledge Dogs
  • Antarctic Monsters
  • Additional cards connected to the Mountains of Madness theme

The original release contains 40 fixed cards, making it a defined supplemental set rather than a randomized card product. This provides a focused way to expand the game with material inspired by Lovecraft’s Antarctic horror setting.

For its second printing, The Mountains of Madness was updated from 40 cards to 60 cards. The revised version includes three copies each of 20 different cards, and its card text was updated where necessary to reflect the most recent FAQ and errata.

Whether encountered in its original form or the updated second printing, The Mountains of Madness Asylum Pack centers Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game around one of Lovecraft’s most ominous expeditions, adding Polar events, sled dogs, monsters, and more to its fixed-card collection.
