About this expansion
The Skirmisher #1 is a 1999 support magazine for two players, created for the Great Campaigns of the American Civil War series by Joe Balkoski, Ed Beach, and Chris Withers.
Published by MMP, this premiere issue gathers new articles, scenarios, player aids, rules errata, and other helpful material for the series. It provides an occasional magazine format focused on supporting the games and their players.
One of its most important features is a standardized GCACW Series Rules set. These rules are intended for use with the earlier Avalon Hill games in the series, including Stonewall Jackson’s Way, Here Come the Rebels, Roads to Gettysburg, Stonewall in the Valley, Stonewall’s Last Battle, and On to Richmond!
The issue also includes a countersheet with new leaders featuring modified or new values for use with the standardized rules. Replacement army unit counters are included as well, particularly for Roads to Gettysburg.
The Skirmisher #1 adds four scenarios drawn from different games in the series:
- Fourth Day — a Roads to Gettysburg scenario
- Bath — a Stonewall in the Valley scenario
- New Market — a Stonewall in the Valley scenario
- Gaines Mill — an On to Richmond! scenario
With its consolidated rules, updated counters, and additional scenarios, this issue serves as a focused support resource for players of the earlier GCACW titles.
