About this expansion

War of the Ring: The Seeing Stones is a promotional mini-expansion for 2 players, released in 2023, with a play time of approximately 150 minutes.

Given out with pre-orders of Kings of Middle-earth, this expansion includes two Kings of Middle-earth Event cards for use with the War of the Ring board game. Their effects introduce new ways to inspect, remove, return, and draw Event cards, while also creating fresh choices around Leadership in battle.

  • Knowledge of the Seeing Stones: Choose a Shadow Event deck, examine its top three cards, discard one, reshuffle one into the deck, return the third to the top, and then draw an Event card from one of your decks.
  • The King’s Banner: If Aragorn or an Awaken Sovereign is in the battle, forfeit that character’s Leadership to cancel the Shadow player’s Leader re-roll before the dice are rolled.
  • The Palantir of Minas Tirith: If you control Minas Tirith or Denethor, Corrupted Ruler, is in play, inspect one Free Peoples player’s hand and return or discard a chosen Event card under the stated conditions. You may then draw an Event card if The Palantir of Orthanc is in play.
  • Battle is Vain: If total Nazgul Leadership is at least 1, forfeit up to 5 points of Nazgul Leadership to reduce Free Peoples Leadership by the same amount.

These effects make the Seeing Stones cards relevant both when managing Event decks and when preparing for a decisive battle. They can disrupt an opponent’s options, improve access to your own cards, or exchange Leadership for control over a re-roll or battlefield advantage.

For players already familiar with War of the Ring, War of the Ring: The Seeing Stones provides a compact promotional addition centered on Event-card knowledge and Leadership decisions.
