About this expansion

A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (Second Edition) – At the Gates is a Chapter Pack for 2–4 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Released in 2019, it begins the King’s Landing cycle and introduces new ways for the great Houses of Westeros to engage with the capital.

Rather than following the plot of A Song of Ice and Fire, the King’s Landing cycle focuses on the capital of Westeros. At the Gates starts your journey at the immense wall surrounding the city, where Aegon I Targaryen built seven entrances in honor of the number sacred to the Faith of the Seven.

The pack features three copies each of twenty distinct cards. Its most prominent additions are the seven gates: low-cost locations that can provide income from their tolls. When you embrace the spirit of your chosen House, you can also sacrifice these locations in exchange for two draws.

  • Seven gates representing the entrances to King’s Landing
  • Income from gate tolls and a two-card draw option through sacrifice
  • New versions of beloved characters
  • A continuation of the shadow keyword, previously reintroduced in the Dance of Shadows cycle

Alongside its gate locations, At the Gates continues the deadly intrigues of Westeros with new character versions and further uses of the shadow keyword. These additions mark the beginning of the sixth cycle of Chapter Packs for the game.

For players looking to expand their Second Edition collection, A Game of Thrones: The Card Game (Second Edition) – At the Gates offers a focused introduction to the King’s Landing cycle and its exploration of Westeros beyond the saga’s usual progression.
