About this expansion

Red Barricades: ASL Historical Module 1 is a two-player Advanced Squad Leader module about the battle around Stalingrad’s Red Barricades ordnance factory, with an approximate play time of 180 minutes. Released in 1990, it requires ASL and Beyond Valor to play.

The module includes seven scenarios, each presenting a different section of the historical battle in the usual ASL format. These individual engagements offer focused ways to recreate the fighting across the factory area and its surrounding buildings.

The heart of Red Barricades is its three campaign games. Instead of simply linking the scenarios together, these campaigns are organized into campaign days. Players fight for control of the factories and surrounding buildings, then use the periods between campaign days to consolidate their positions, purchase reinforcements, and prepare for the next stage of the battle.

The campaign options cover different parts of the German assault and Soviet defense. One follows the first few days of the German attack, another depicts the last days of the Soviet defense, and the largest campaign covers the full 30-day German push to take the area.

  • Seven historical ASL scenarios
  • Three campaign games with campaign-day progression
  • Two historically accurate map sheets
  • New Stalingrad terrain rules, including debris, railway embankments, and storage tanks
  • New weapons, including the Russian Molotov Projector

With its detailed maps, specialized terrain rules, and long-form campaign structure, Red Barricades: ASL Historical Module 1 expands the ASL experience with a focused recreation of one of Stalingrad’s major battles.
