About this board game
Afrika Korps: The Desert War – Platoon Level Combat in World War II: A Panzer Grenadier Game is a two-player standalone strategy game covering the early North African campaign from 1940 to 1941.
Set during the fighting in Libya and Egypt, the game places players in command of platoon-sized units representing German, British, Australian, and Italian infantry, tanks, and artillery. The 50 scenarios span the initial Italian raids of June 1940 through the Allied Operation Brevity in May 1941.
Actions range from small, intense infantry engagements to broad tank battles. The scenarios portray a campaign in which first one side and then the other gained the upper hand after the Italian army invaded British-held Egypt in September 1940.
- 50 scenarios covering battles in North Africa during 1940 and 1941
- German, British, Australian, and Italian forces
- Platoon-level infantry, tank, and artillery units
- Three 22×34 maps printed on heavy paper
- Standalone play without requiring other products
The game includes the troops and tanks of the armies that fought in Libya and Egypt. Its three-map playing surface is the largest in the Panzer Grenadier series, although 40 scenarios require only one map and just two use all three.
Afrika Korps is part of the Panzer Grenadier series and has been expanded by Sinister Forces and South Africa’s War. The game has also drawn criticism for depicting some Italian standard infantry counters unarmed with their hands raised in surrender, while no Allied counters receive the same depiction.
