About this board game

Age of Comics: The Golden Years is a worker placement management game for 1–4 players, with a play time of about 120 minutes. Set during the golden age of comics from 1938 to 1954, it challenges players to run a publishing company and build the strongest comic book portfolio.

Each round, players take turns positioning their editors at six different publishing tasks: hire, develop, ideas, print, sales, and royalties. These actions support the full publishing process, from assembling creative talent to turning comic concepts into published books and earning money.

Printing a comic book requires careful preparation. A player must pay the necessary monetary resources, use two identical idea tokens, and have a comic book cover, a writer, and an artist card. The comic’s value is determined by the combined values of its writer and artist, making the development of a capable creative team an important part of the game.

  • Manage a publishing company during the golden age of comics.
  • Place editors across six publishing tasks.
  • Combine covers, writers, artists, and idea tokens to print comics.
  • Track fans and compete for victory points throughout the game.

The game lasts five rounds. During play, a fan chart tracks the fans accumulated by the comics and awards victory points according to the players’ rankings at the end of every round.

In Age of Comics: The Golden Years, success comes from balancing publishing requirements, creative value, money, and fan support. The winner is the player with the most victory points after the fifth round.
