About this board game
Antietam 1862 is a 1–2 player brigade-level wargame of the pivotal Maryland battle, with an official play time of 300 minutes. As Volume I of Worthington Publishing’s Civil War Brigade Battle Series, it is designed to bring a major engagement to the table in an evening.
Refight the bloodiest day in American history, when more than 22,000 men were killed, wounded, or missing. The Confederates are outnumbered by more than two to one: can they hold on and place another defeat on Lincoln’s doorstep? As the Union, can you capture the Confederate army and end the war in 1862?
The game uses an igo-ugo turn structure, with each strength point representing 100 men and each map hex covering 250 yards. Step-loss counters track losses in one-point increments, while battlefield decisions unfold through ranged artillery fire, morale, melee, cavalry charges, and other combat considerations.
An eight-page rulebook is intended to get experienced wargamers playing within an hour, with concepts familiar to the genre. Antietam 1862 is similar in rules to High Tide at Gettysburg and Chickamauga: River of Death, while introducing the designer’s own changes to simplify and speed up play.
- 22 × 33-inch hard-mounted game board
