About this expansion

Apples to Apples: Expansion Set #4 is a 2002 expansion for 3–8 players, designed for games lasting about 30 minutes. Known as the Special Pairs Edition, it adds new cards and rule variations to the popular Apples to Apples series.

The expansion includes 216 Green Apple “Pairs” cards and 72 Red Apple “Pairs” cards. These additions expand the card selection for Apples to Apples and offer fresh possibilities for the choices made during play.

The Bottom of the Barrel Variation provides a way to wind down a game. Players play out the seven cards in their hands without redrawing. As red apple cards are depleted, both the judge’s decision and the players’ choices become increasingly challenging.

With the Rotten Apples Variation, a judge has an alternative when the submitted red apple cards do not fit the green apple card. The judge may replace the current green apple card with the top card from the stack, then must use the new green apple card to select one of the submitted red apple cards. Only one green apple card is awarded, and each judge may use this option once per game.
