About this board game

Archmage is a euro-thematic hybrid board game for 1–4 players, with an approximately 120-minute play time, in which fledgling Mages compete to build the most powerful Order and become the next Archmage.

Travel across a map of hex tiles through the Ruined City and its surrounding wilderness. Discover locations, deploy followers to recover ancient relics, and encounter the followers of rival Mages as you seek the lost secrets of six mythic races.

Each turn has two phases: The Journey, followed by Journey’s End. Where your Mage finishes the journey determines the action available to your Order.

  • Visit Towns to deliver gathered relics and resources.
  • Reach Settlements to recruit more Followers.
  • Meet Mythic Races to train Followers as Apprentices in their spheres of magic.
  • End in the Wilderness to increase your physical control over the area.
  • Return to your Mage’s Tower to train and test Apprentices and discover new spells.

At the heart of the tower, Apprentices move across a mandala on your player board. Their positions affect which spells your Order can access, while testing allows an Apprentice to advance to a higher level and helps your Mage uncover magic beyond the knowledge of any single Mythic Race.

Relics serve as the game’s magical currency and are spent to cast spells. With a modular spell system featuring 18 spells in the base game, Archmage offers strategic and tactical choices as Orders grow in power.

After the final turn, the Mage with the most powerful Order claims the title of Archmage, restoring power to the lands.
