About this expansion

Atlantis: Boat Expansion is a 2009 expansion for 2–4 players, with a play time of approximately 45 minutes. It adds four wooden ships to the Atlantis game, introducing another way for players to cross the board.

The boats function more or less like the bridges in the base game. However, they add an important twist: players may use another player’s ship to cross. This creates an additional payment choice whenever a ship belonging to someone else provides the route.

  • Four wooden ships included in the expansion
  • Ships function similarly to bridges from the base game
  • Other players’ ships can be used for crossing
  • Payments can be made to the bank or to the player whose ship is used

When using another player’s ship, the player crossing pays the correct amount to the bank or half that amount to the owner of the ship. This gives the boats a distinct payment rule while keeping their basic role close to that of bridges.

As a small addition to Atlantis, the Boat Expansion focuses on a concise set of components and one clear mechanical change. The four ships expand the available crossing options and make ownership relevant when players choose how to use them.

Originally given away for free at Essen 2009, Atlantis: Boat Expansion is a compact way to add ship-based crossing and player-to-player payment decisions to the base game.
