About this board game
Ausgebremst is a racing board game for 3–6 players, with games lasting about 45 minutes. Released in 1993, it puts each player in the role of a race car driver competing to move around a configurable track.
Using the basic system pioneered in Ave Caesar, players use cards to move their cars forward by a number of spaces. The race becomes more demanding at the track’s choke points, where only a few cars can travel side-by-side. These narrow sections make positioning and movement especially important as the cars work their way around the circuit.
The track is built from three double-sided half-boards. By combining these sections in different ways, players can create circuits with varying levels of difficulty, offering easier and harder track configurations without requiring a completely different game system.
- For 3–6 players
- Approximately 45 minutes per game
- Card-driven car movement
- Track sections with restricted choke points
- Three double-sided half-boards for multiple layouts
An advanced version adds another strategic layer. Each player can divide their movement cards in different ways, choosing an approach suited to the particular track in play. This gives the card supply a more flexible role and lets players adapt their strategy to the circuit’s layout.
With its modular board, straightforward card-based movement, and distinctive narrow sections, Ausgebremst focuses on the challenge of racing through tracks where space is limited. It combines the recognizable racing framework associated with Ave Caesar with configurable courses and an advanced card-management option.
