About this board game

Band of Brothers: Screaming Eagles is a two-player, approximately 90-minute game of fast-playing squad-level combat in World War II, covering the 101st Airborne Division’s battles from D-Day through the Battle of the Bulge.

Designed to be simple without sacrificing scope, the system uses no combat charts and has few exceptions to remember. It includes infantry, tanks, and artillery while focusing on the decisions and uncertainty of small-unit combat.

At the heart of the game is a distinctive suppression mechanic. Units do not simply occupy one of two states: suppression can build in varying degrees as fire comes from multiple sources. A unit does not make a morale check until it is asked to act, so you may not know how it will respond when its action becomes important.

  • Fire and maneuver: Squads are not expected to destroy dug-in, first-line troops with long-range fire.
  • Close assaults: Enemy sections must be pinned down and eliminated from up close.
  • Realistic positioning: The system rewards spreading troops out and discourages approaches that expose them to concentrated fire.
  • Unit differentiation: Proficiency and Casualty ratings distinguish squads in more ways than morale alone.

Artillery and heavy weapons can cause casualties, making them important battlefield targets, while the overall system encourages players to coordinate movement, suppression, and close-range attacks. Its mechanics are built to push the battle toward realistic fire-and-maneuver tactics rather than relying on ranged shooting alone.

Released in 2011, Band of Brothers: Screaming Eagles is the first game in a series. The related standalone game Band of Brothers: Ghost Panzer follows Germany’s 11th Panzer Division on the Eastern Front, with other titles under research focused on the US 1st Marine Division and Commonwealth forces.
