About this board game
Behold: Rome is a solo civilization-building card game for one player, with a 60-minute play time and gameplay designed to work without a table.
Across 12 rounds, develop your civilization, build an efficient production engine, and orient your deck for maximum scoring. You must also outsmart and outscore a chosen rival civilization to secure your place in history.
Every turn, play cards to take actions while managing two resource types: materials and population. Materials are typically spent to upgrade cards, while population is typically used to conquer regions. Conquered regions strengthen your production engine, but expanding is not always the best choice.
- Cards have four orientations, called levels.
- Each card level has its own unique, often conditional, scoring rule.
- Conquer wealthy regions, or abandon regions to develop your nation or gain valuable tributaries.
- Upgrade your nation card and use its powerful level-based scoring abilities.
Your nation begins as a monarchy and can progress through a republic and an empire before reaching a theocracy. Each of the nation card’s four levels offers a distinct scoring ability, creating another important puzzle as you decide how to develop your civilization.
With its card orientations, resource management, region control, and conditional scoring, Behold: Rome challenges you to make every action count. Build the right engine, choose when to expand or abandon territory, and finish the final round with the strongest possible nation and score.
