About this board game

Bilder is a creative tabletop game for 2–12 players that takes about 60 minutes to play. In each turn, one player becomes the bilder, using 40 wooden pieces to create a structure, tell a story, or bring a scene to life while everyone else tries to guess it.

At the start of a turn, the bilder draws a What card and chooses one of two possible things to bild. The cards cover six categories, identified by letters and colors, ranging from living beings and imagined ideas to locations, devices, events, and everything that does not fit the other groups.

  • Beings: humans, beasts, and botanical bodies
  • Imagined: invented or implausible ideas
  • Locations: places and landmarks
  • Devices: designed objects and gadgets
  • Events: encounters and experiences
  • Rest: a varied collection of remaining concepts

Other players earn cards by correctly guessing what is being created. The bilder can score a letter by choosing one of three revealed HOW cards. Most add an extra rule that makes building harder, while some provide additional hints to make the task easier.

Challenges add another twist. They change the rules and require a test of skill to pass, but they also work as wildcards that can stand for any letter. The goal is to collect all six letters in B-I-L-D-E-R and win the game.

With open-ended prompts, tactile wooden pieces, and changing building conditions, Bilder turns imagination and interpretation into a shared game of creative guessing.
