About this board game
Blue Moon City is a 2006 board game for 2–4 players, with play lasting about 50 minutes. Players work to reconstruct a destroyed city and restore the large Crystal of the Obelisk at its center.
The board contains 21 large building tiles, illustrated by Franz Vohwinkel and well-known American fantasy artists. Each tile begins on its building-plan side. Players use cards featuring the races of Blue Moon to help complete the buildings, turning their tiles over to reveal the reconstructed city.
When a building is completely rebuilt, the players who contributed to it receive crystals and dragon favors. These favors can be traded for crystals at certain times, while the three large molded plastic dragons add a distinctive feature to the game’s city-rebuilding setting.
- Rebuild 21 city buildings from their plans
- Use race cards to contribute to construction
- Earn crystals and dragon favors for helping
- Pay crystals to add markers to the central Obelisk
The race to the Obelisk determines the winner. A player who pays enough crystals to add the required number of markers wins: four markers in a four-player game, five in a three-player game, or six in a two-player game.
Blue Moon City also has two mini-expansions, each containing two additional tiles. They can be added separately or together; the first appeared in the Der Knizia Almanach, while the second was included with the June 2006 issue of Spielbox. Edition rules also differ on dragon scales, including the scale totals used in original and later printings.
