About this board game
Bucket King 3D is a 2014 card-and dexterity game for 2–6 players that takes about 20 minutes to play. Players use animal cards to attack opponents’ three-dimensional bucket pyramids while defending their own.
Each round begins when the active player lays down 1–3 cards of the same color or animal and announces their combined value. They draw one card at the end of the turn, regardless of how many cards they played. In turn, the other players must play 1–3 cards matching the required color or animal and announce a higher total—or lose a bucket.
When a player cannot or chooses not to defend, they remove one bucket of the required color from their pyramid using only one finger. If that color is unavailable, they remove a bucket of their choice. Knock out a bucket low in a pyramid and the resulting cascade may bring down even more.
Rounds continue until someone loses one or more buckets, then the played cards are cleared and that player starts the next round. In games with 2–4 players, losing your last bucket ends the game. With 5–6 players, eliminated players leave the game, and play ends when only three players still have buckets. The winner is the player with the most buckets remaining.
Experienced players can add two optional twists:
- Special “One”: playing a 1 allows additional cards of any color, increasing the total and the number of cards drawn.
- Backfiring Discard: adding an extra card of the same color to the discard pile reverses the direction of play.
Both variants can be combined, giving Bucket King 3D an even more unpredictable contest of card values, tactical defense, and careful bucket-poking.
