About this expansion

Carcassonne: German Cathedrals is a six-tile mini-expansion for Carcassonne, supporting games for 2–5 players. Each tile features a well-known cathedral from Germany, adding distinctive landmarks and two special ways to use your meeples.

Place a meeple as a thief on a road connected to one of the cathedral tiles. Instead of scoring the usual way, that thief earns double points for each road segment rather than for each tile, making connected roads especially important.

You can also place a meeple directly on the cathedral as a bishop. If every road connected to that cathedral has been completed before the end of the game, the bishop scores 1 point per road segment.

  • Six tiles: Each depicts a well-known cathedral from Germany.
  • Thief scoring: A thief on a connected road earns double points per road segment.
  • Bishop scoring: A bishop scores 1 point per road segment when all connected roads are finished before the game ends.

These rules give each cathedral tile a choice between immediate road-focused scoring and a condition that rewards completing every connected road. The expansion therefore brings cathedral landmarks into Carcassonne while tying them directly to road construction and meeple placement.

Carcassonne: German Cathedrals was released in 2016 and is part of the Carcassonne series. It was first available during the Easter season through April 3, 2016, from the publisher’s online store, and became available there again in October 2016.
