About this expansion

Carcassonne: The Robbers is a small expansion for 2–6 players, released in 2012, that adds robber figures and eight special landscape tiles to the Carcassonne experience.

At the start of the game, shuffle the eight tiles bearing a robber symbol together with the other landscape tiles. When a player draws one, they place it according to the standard rules, then position their special robber meeple on the score track beside the score marker of any other player.

The next player in turn order who has a robber off the scoring track also places one next to an opponent’s score marker. This creates an additional scoring threat that remains on the track until the marked player scores.

  • Eight robber-marked landscape tiles
  • A special robber meeple for each player
  • Score-track interaction between opponents
  • A reward based on another player’s scoring movement

Whenever a score marker accompanied by a robber moves, the robber’s owner advances their own score marker by half that many spaces, rounded up. Afterward, the robber is removed from the score track.

There is one important exception. If a player moves their score marker by robbing someone else, any robbers on that space move with the score marker and wait to rob that player after a normal scoring. If multiple score markers sharing a space with a robber score at the same time, the robber’s owner chooses which player to rob.

With its focused rules and direct score-track interaction, Carcassonne: The Robbers adds a distinctive way to benefit from an opponent’s progress while remaining part of the Carcassonne series.
