About this board game
Carpe Astra is a strategy board game for 2–4 players, played in about 60 minutes, in which players compete to claim the Galactic Throne.
Set 10,000 years in the future, the game unfolds as humanity’s vast Empire begins to crumble. The Emperor is weak, powerful guilds are divided, and rival players must build enough influence to become the strong leader the Empire needs.
To establish a power base, connect with important guilds throughout the Empire. These include the military, traders, priests, engineers, expansionists, and politicians. Every connection can gain support from some guilds, helping you assemble the network needed to challenge your opponents.
- Build a network of support across the Empire.
- Connect with six influential guilds.
- Use events for further gain.
- Slander opponents while protecting your own support.
Competition for the throne is intense, and other players are pursuing their own paths to power. Slander can weaken your rivals, but receiving slander reduces your support, making every political maneuver potentially costly.
As the game reaches its conclusion, support determines who rises above the others. The player with the most support claims the Galactic Throne and leads the surviving Empire. Carpe Astra combines alliance-building, rivalry, and changing opportunities in a focused contest for galactic leadership.
The name “Carpe Astra” was chosen after Jackson Pope invited BoardGameGeek users to brainstorm a name for the game. Released in 2008, it places the fate of humanity’s future in the hands of players competing for influence, prestige, and ultimate control.
