About this board game

Caverna: Cave vs. Cave is a 1–2 player board game that plays in about 40 minutes, challenging players to develop a dwarven settlement inside a mountain over eight rounds.

Each player begins with two dwarves, a small excavation, and an individual board covered with a random assortment of face-down building and room tiles. Only one space is initially available, while several tiles and four action tiles are face up and ready to enter play.

At the start of each round, a new action tile is revealed. Players then alternate taking actions, with the number of actions increasing from two to four as the game progresses. These actions help players open new living space, construct buildings and rooms, and dig through the mountain for precious metals.

• Develop a mountain board by excavating new spaces.
• Expand your workforce over the course of the game.
• Add building and room tiles to your growing settlement.
• Collect gold and score for your constructed buildings.

Excavating also adds new building and room tiles to the available pool. Some rooms can be used immediately when acquired, while others require the use of an action tile, creating different opportunities as each player shapes their underground home.

After the eighth round, players tally the points from their buildings and collected gold. In Caverna: Cave vs. Cave, the player with the higher total wins.
