About this board game

Chichén Itzá is a strategic board game for 2–4 players that plays in about 120 minutes. Set in the heart of the Mayan empire, it challenges you to defend the sacred city as mythical creatures emerge from forgotten realms and threaten to consume its glory.

The game lasts six rounds, with each player taking four actions per round. During setup, 16 of 21 action tiles are placed in a 4×4 grid, while four cost markers are randomly positioned along the grid’s top and side. Each action can be chosen only once per round, making timing and opportunity central to your plans.

When you take an action, its cost depends on when you choose it. The first player to select that action pays the lower of the two matching cost markers; anyone taking it later in the same round pays the higher value.

• Move troops across the threatened region.
• Acquire god cards and upgrade four combat gears.
• Fight legendary creatures.
• Reclaim villages, temples, camps, and ruins.

At the end of each round, players check whether they have completed particular achievements. These goals provide another way to shape your strategy while the creatures’ siege continues.

Victory points come from a broad range of accomplishments, including defeated creatures, controlled areas, completed achievements, present heroes, endgame god cards, collected crystals, and more. In Chichén Itzá, every action contributes to the struggle to protect the city and restore its sacred places.
