About this board game
City of Chaos is a fantasy board game for 1–6 players, with play lasting about 300 minutes, in which players explore a randomly generated city and work to restore order.
In the smog-filled streets of Byronitar, strange entropic forces threaten to tear the city apart. Anarchy rules, normality has vanished, and bizarre beasts and spirits have appeared. Players must uncover clues, learn the ways of the city, and find the sources of the chaos.
The game combines several distinct systems into one unfolding adventure:
- Tile laying: Players create the game board as they place tiles and explore new areas.
- Random events: Entering a new tile triggers an event card, bringing fresh situations and encounters.
- Combat: Many events lead to battles against opponents.
- Role playing: Characters can improve their skills and gain weapons or items to aid them.
- Paragraph reading: The developing plot is revealed through paragraphs in a book.
- Mystery solving: Players must interpret the clues they discover to determine how to win.
Each game uses a random plot and world generator, so no two journeys through Byronitar are alike. Players make the decisions, fight the battles, trade, talk, train, and investigate as they attempt to unravel the city’s dark secrets.
Designed to be easy to play, City of Chaos combines exploration, encounters, character development, combat, and a changing mystery in a single fantasy board game. Chaos is unleashed—be prepared.
