About this expansion

Rebel Seas: The British Navy at Bay Part I is a historical naval game for 2–35 players, with an approximate playing time of 240 minutes. Released in 2002, it presents 20 scenarios set in American waters during the American War of Independence.

The scenarios cover a wide range of engagements. Players can take on one-on-one frigate actions or command forces in grand fleet engagements involving more than 20 ships of the line on each side.

  • 20 scenarios set during the American War of Independence
  • Actions ranging from individual frigate duels to large fleet battles
  • Research and commentary for every scenario
  • Support for 2–35 players

Each scenario includes the same level of research and commentary found in Close Action: The Age of Fighting Sail Vol. 1. This detailed presentation places the naval actions within the broader historical setting while offering encounters of very different sizes.

Rebel Seas is the second volume in Mark Campbell’s Close Action series and the first of three books spanning the years 1774–1792. The planned companion volumes focus on the struggle for India in Monsoon Seas: Suffren’s Campaign for India and England’s blockades of its Continental foes in European Seas: The Lifeline of Empires.

Whether played as a focused frigate action or a massive fleet engagement, Rebel Seas brings together a broad collection of researched naval scenarios from the American theater of the era.
