About this board game
COGZ is a steampunk strategy game for 2–6 players, with games lasting around 30 minutes. As rival cogineers, players race to repair a mad professor’s broken chromatic cogtraption before he returns.
The cogtraption is built from modular Cog Tiles, creating varied layouts and potentially infinite configurations. On their turns, cogineers swap segments of the broken device. Whenever a swapped segment is different, the player gains cognition, the game’s scoring resource.
Each cogineer has their own agenda for completing repairs. Once a mechanism is fully repaired, it can no longer be modified by the other players, making timing and planning essential. Clever repairs can also award bonus cognition and bonus turns, creating opportunities to extend a well-timed move.
- Simple to learn, difficult to master: COGZ offers accessible rules with considerable strategic depth.
- Flexible play: Games can be light and social with higher player counts or intensely strategic with two or three players.
- Included variants: Explore tournaments, team play, alternate board layouts, 3D board setups, and options that expand play to 1–12 players.
- Accessible design: The game was tested and optimised for common colour-blind limitations.
COGZ has been play-tested for almost three years and is endorsed by Mensa. It supports a wide range of ages and skill levels, with repeated play encouraging pattern matching, planning, and strategic development.
The components include high-resolution graphics, thick linen-finish cardboard, a cotton drawstring bag with foil logo printing, solid brass game-gadget interscrews, and functional gear mechanisms. With multiple language rules available and a polished modular system, COGZ invites players to keep rebuilding the chromatic device in new ways.
