About this board game
Crypt is a set collection game for 1 to 4 players that plays in about 35 minutes. Its distinctive dice placement mechanic challenges you to balance bold choices against the risk of losing your servants.
Place your servant dice on treasure cards, choosing any value for each die. A higher value can help ward off opponents competing for the same treasures, but it also makes exhaustion more likely. After every player has placed their servant dice, everyone rolls.
If a die rolls less than the value you chose, you lose that die. This creates a tense decision each time you commit a servant: choose a lower value for a safer result, or aim higher to protect your claim. The placement choices made before the roll are central to every turn.
- Dice placement: Assign servant dice to treasure cards and choose each die’s value.
- Risk and reward: Higher values can ward off opponents but increase the odds of exhaustion.
- Set collection: Gather treasures and pawn sets to collectors.
- Collector rewards: Gain bonus coins and special abilities from the collectors.
As the game develops, treasure sets become a route to bonus coins and useful special abilities. Decide which treasures to pursue and when to turn sets over to collectors, while managing the servants available to you.
In Crypt, careful planning and calculated risk work together. The player with the most valuable collection wins, making every treasure claim, die value, and collector decision matter.
