Darwin’s Choice: Before and After is an expansion for 2–6 players that adds a prehistoric and human-impact focus to the strategic animal-building game, with play lasting about 120 minutes. The base game is required.

Build animal species from a huge card pool and place them in biomes with different requirements and food availability. The better a species adapts to its biome, the more likely it is to survive and earn coveted Darwin points, while species with the greatest competitive strength can also be rewarded across the zones.

This expansion introduces more than 240 new Animal Cards, with an emphasis on dinosaurs and other prehistoric species. It also adds human-made events and territories, highlighting how humanity can affect nature and evolution while fitting seamlessly into the theme of the base game.

• Respond to biome changes and event card effects across 3–4 eras.

Darwin’s Choice is a game of careful card allocation, forward planning, and flexible decision-making. Conditions can change completely between eras, so an approach that succeeds in one period may need to be revised in the next. The many possible actions of both you and your opponents make timing and foresight essential.

With hand-drawn artwork by French artist Rozenn Grosjean, the expansion brings a distinctive visual style to its environmental theme. It is made solely from sustainable wood with as little plastic as possible, and both the base game and expansion are 100% carbon neutral.
