About this board game
DeathMaze: Heroic Adventure in the Corridors of Doom is a fantasy adventure game for one to six players, with a playing time of approximately 180 minutes. Released in 1979, it places players in control of one or more adventurers exploring the depths of a horror-filled catacomb.
The goal is to seek glory and gold while facing the dangers of the corridors. Like a fantasy role-playing game, DeathMaze focuses on personal heroic fantasy and the actions of individual adventurers.
Unlike traditional role-playing games, it requires no gamesmaster. Instead, the players’ skills are tested against an ungamemastered game system, allowing the game itself to drive the adventure through the catacomb.
DeathMaze: Heroic Adventure in the Corridors of Doom supports both solo play and groups of up to six players. Its broad player range makes it suitable for a lone adventurer or a shared expedition in which each participant controls one or more heroes.
An expanded set of rules appeared in MOVES magazine #51, under the title “Roll up for the mystery tour!” The game’s system was later used in Citadel of Blood, connecting DeathMaze to a later title built on the same foundation.
