Der schwarze Pirat is a 15-minute board game for 2–4 players about sailing between treasure islands while escaping a relentless pirate.

The game board depicts the sea and a collection of islands. Six islands have harbors and colored flags marking them as treasure islands, each with a gold coin waiting to be claimed. Another island bears the pirate’s flag and serves as Salvador Sea Devil’s home.

Each player receives a colored boat and a small bag, placing the boat on the matching ship at the center of the board. Salvador’s pirate vessel, the Black Svenja, begins in the bay of the pirate island. The remaining gold coins, a pair of dice, and the bellows are kept beside the board.

As the seafarers move from island to island, Salvador Sea Devil stays close behind, seeking to pillage their treasures and board their boats. When the pirate approaches, the seafarers must set sail and try to get away across the sea.

Wind is central to the game’s theme and movement. The boats use their large sails to catch the wind, and players can create powerful gusts with the bellows, sending the ships skimming across the board. A well-timed burst can help a boat escape Salvador at the very last moment.
