About this board game
Diceland: Deep White Sea is a 20-minute arena battle for 2–5 players, released in 2002. Players command colorful octahedral paper dice, each representing a character, and compete to be the first to score 50 points.
The game includes five sets of stiff paper dice, with five team members in each set. Every die features full-color comic-book-style artwork by Eduardo Muller, along with game information printed on its faces. The pre-cut, scored dice assemble with tabs and slots, while quality card stock makes them surprisingly sturdy.
- Character dice: Each die represents a team member and displays powers, attack information, defense values, and points.
- Three turn choices: Throw an available character into the arena, use a character’s action or power, or move a character by rotating its die onto a new face.
- Cascading powers: Some special actions let one character use the powers of other teammates, creating chain reactions across the table.
When a new character enters play, it may immediately use the power shown on the face that lands face up. Powers can include attacks or special actions, giving each arrival the potential to affect the arena right away.
Combat is straightforward but tactical. If an attack’s power rating exceeds the defending die’s block rating, the defender is killed and the attacker scores the points printed on side one. If the attack is equal to or weaker than the defense, the defender is moved to a lower-value face instead; after enough wounds, a die reaches its lowest face and is killed.
With quick turns, rotating characters, and opportunities for linked abilities, Diceland: Deep White Sea delivers a compact battle where positioning and timing matter.
