About this board game

Discordia is a strategy board game for 1–4 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes, in which you develop and defend a Roman frontier city.

As governor of a settlement founded from a Roman outpost on the Rhine, you must guide its growth while protecting the border from Germanic tribes. Empress Agrippina and her son Nero will inspect your achievements and honor the most successful governor.

Develop your city by constructing useful buildings and managing the people and opportunities available to you. Your plans may include:

  • Building farms, barracks, defenses, harbors, and markets
  • Trading with ships
  • Using seamen, soldiers, merchants, and farmers profitably
  • Fulfilling decrees and securing privileges

Careful timing is essential. Your city must grow neither too quickly nor too slowly, so every decision contributes to a balanced development plan. The challenge is not simply to expand, but to make the most effective use of your city’s workforce while maintaining its defenses.

Will your settlement become the best-developed city at the end of the fourth year? Alternatively, you may impress the empress before then and secure an early victory. With its Roman frontier setting, city development, trade, defense, and multiple paths toward recognition, Discordia puts you in command of a growing Rhine outpost and asks you to govern it wisely.
