About this board game

Duel of Ages II is a time-scramble board game for 2–8 players, with a typical playing time of 150 minutes. Two opposing sides each control a secret team of 8–12 characters drawn from the Ancient, Colonial, Modern, and Future ages.

Victory comes from winning more achievements than the opposing team. Players must balance tactical combat with treasure gathering, non-combat teamwork, and adventuring, since characters differ significantly and many are poor fighters.

The standard game unfolds through a sequence of important decisions:

• Select a team of 8–12 characters while keeping the choice secret.
• Build an interlocking puzzle map suited to the team’s skills.
• Select Team White and Team Black based on character Respect.
• Reveal and equip the characters.
• Bring characters onto the map according to Respect.
• Play game rounds in which characters maneuver, complete adventures, hunt enemies, and avoid dangerous situations.
• Count the achievements won by each team.

During play, characters move across the map to pursue adventures and enemy characters while managing the risks presented by the board and opposing team. The sides may have uneven numbers of players, allowing one side to include between one and four players independently of the other.

The game can end at a set time or after a specified number of rounds. With its unusual combination of wargame-style combat, treasure gathering, and character teamwork, Duel of Ages II creates stories shaped by the choices made during each time-spanning contest.
