Dungeon Universalis

About this board game

Dungeon Universalis is a medieval-fantasy dungeon crawler for 1–6 players, with games lasting around 180 minutes and an age recommendation of 12+. Its system combines intuitive mechanics, card games, and the broad possibilities of a role-playing game.

The game includes a huge narrative campaign alongside several independent quests. You can also create your own quests, or use the rulebook, system, and cards to replay missions and quests from other dungeon crawlers. The setting can adapt to any medieval-fantasy background, while the game also offers its own world: the setting of Raazbal, a novel written by the game’s author and published in 2010.

Dungeon Universalis supports several distinct ways to play, allowing groups to choose the experience that best suits them:

• Standard mode: a Dark Player competes against the other players. Quests may end when their objective is achieved or after a set number of turns, and the group can gain experience that improves attributes and skills.
• Individual mode: players gain experience based on their own achievements.
• Cooperative mode: the game is fully cooperative, including a lone-wolf option, with an artificial Dark Player.
• RPG mode: the Dark Player is omniscient, like a traditional role-playing game master.
• Open-map mode: scenarios take place without a gridded floor.

With competitive, cooperative, solo, narrative, and open-map possibilities, Dungeon Universalis is designed as a flexible game system as well as a collection of adventures.
