About this expansion
Eclipse: Supernova is an expansion for 2–6 players, with a play time of 120 minutes, released in 2011. It introduces two unstable Supernova sector hexes and one Discovery Tile to the game.
Before building the Outer Sector stack, shuffle the two Supernova hexes together with the other Outer Sector hexes. The Discovery Tile is shuffled with the other Discovery Tiles, adding the possibility of discovering it during play.
Each Supernova is constantly at risk of exploding. At the beginning of every Cleanup Phase, roll two dice for each Supernova hex and add their values to the number of Technologies on the track where the hex owner has the fewest Technologies. If the hex has no Influence Disc, no Technology bonus is added.
Compare the resulting total with the number of the current round. If the result is equal to or less than the current round number, the Supernova explodes. This creates a clear and escalating danger as the game progresses, while technological advancement may help keep the sector stable.
- Two Supernova sector hexes added to the Outer Sector stack
- One Discovery Tile shuffled with the other Discovery Tiles
- Dice-based stability checks during every Cleanup Phase
- Technology-based bonuses determined by the hex owner’s track
When a Supernova explodes, all ships and structures are removed from the hex. Population cubes return to their Population tracks, the Influence Disc returns to the Influence track, and the hex is flipped over.
An exploded Supernova can still be entered by using the Wormhole Generator technology, following the normal rules. With its unstable sectors and round-based explosion test, Eclipse: Supernova adds a powerful threat shaped by dice, ownership, and technological development.
