About this board game
Era of Tribes is a civilization worker-placement strategy game for 1–4 players, with a listed play time of 180 minutes. Lead a dynasty across Europe from the Neolithic period to the High Middle Ages, pursuing Influence Points as you develop, expand, discover, and interact with rival tribes.
Each player represents a clan chief striving to become the ruler of a vast empire. Place leaders in the chambers of your tribal action board to guide your civilization. Actions can help you spread vassals, found cities, collect resources and luxury goods, resolve conflicts, trade, levy taxes, negotiate with neighbors, and acquire additional leaders.
- Expansion: spread vassals, found cities, gather goods, and decide conflicts.
- Trade and Taxes: increase your wealth through commerce and taxation.
- Diplomacy: negotiate, raise influence with neighbors, alter turn order, or gain leaders.
- Improvement: discover advances that strengthen your cities, armies, farmers, trade, navigation, morale, and influence.
- Bread & Circuses: combine luxury goods with this action to improve population morale.
- Revolution: advance to the next epoch when you meet its requirements.
Your decisions generate Influence Points throughout the game, while secret Influence Cards provide additional end-game objectives. Further bonuses may come from different achievements, and victory goes to the player with the most influence when the game ends.
Several possible end conditions can bring the struggle to a close, including amassing wealth, controlling provinces, reaching the ancient times, developing the most advances, conquering an opponent’s main territories, or reaching a specified influence total. With ten unique tribes to choose from, Era of Tribes offers multiple routes to supremacy and combines Eurogame planning with expansive civilization strategy.
