About this expansion

Evolution: The Origin of Species – Time to Fly is an expansion for 2–6 players with a 45-minute play time, released in 2011.

Evolution never stops at one place. In the original Evolution: The Origin of Species, players created animals with distinctive traits, from toxic predators and hidden animals to fatty stock, hibernation, and rejected tails. This expansion opens new space for experimentation and change in the animal kingdom.

Time to Fly introduces new ways for animals to protect themselves, surprise other animals, and take to the skies. Its standout additions include:

  • Hiding animals in strong shells
  • Teaching animals to emit ink
  • Giving animals the ability to fly
  • Creating dangerous predators that use themselves as bait

These possibilities make appearances deceptive. An animal that seems harmless may not be defenseless prey at all; it could be a dangerous predator waiting to catch an attacker. Every new trait adds another direction for experimentation as animal combinations continue to grow.

The original game allowed players to create more than 50,000 different animals. With Evolution: The Origin of Species – Time to Fly, the number of possible combinations rises above 50 million—more than the number of kinds of living animals on Earth.
