About this board game
Exxit is a two-player strategy game played in about 40 minutes, beginning on a minimal board of four hexagonal flagstones. Released in 2006, it challenges players to extend their territory by gaining new flagstones.
Each player uses eight pawns while attempting to deal with unfavorable pieces. Pawns can be made to leave the board and then imprisoned for later release, creating a distinctive cycle of tactical decisions. The game’s central challenge lies in deciding how to manage these pieces as the board develops.
Exxit uses an original mechanism called distribution. This mechanism produces unexpectedly complex tactical and strategic situations from a compact starting position, rewarding careful attention to the changing arrangement of the board and the pawns.
- For 2 players
- Approximately 40 minutes of play
- Begins with four hexagonal flagstones
- Eight pawns per player
- Territory expansion through new flagstones
- A distinctive distribution mechanism
The simple initial layout provides a clear entry point, while the interaction between territory, pawns, imprisonment, and release gives the game considerable depth. Players must look beyond immediate moves and consider how the distribution of pieces may shape future possibilities.
Recognized as a winner of the 2004 Concours International de Créateurs de Jeux de Société, Exxit offers a focused contest built around an unusual mechanism and increasingly intricate board situations.
