About this board game
Factory Fun is a factory-building board game for 2–5 players that plays in about 45 minutes. Players purchase machines and connect reservoirs, pipelines, and outputs to create the most successful and profitable production floor.
Each player begins with a unique empty factory floor and a support pillar in the middle. The starting setup includes one reservoir of each color: yellow, blue, red, and brown. As the game progresses, players may acquire additional reservoirs and place machines that require between one and three inputs.
Every machine produces one output in yellow, blue, red, brown, or black, with black representing an end product. Players must connect all reservoirs and machines correctly using connectors, making the layout increasingly puzzling as the factory develops. Connecting a machine’s input to another machine’s output creates more advanced products and brings extra profit.
- Build a factory by placing machines, reservoirs, and connectors.
- Manage yellow, blue, red, and brown inputs, plus black end products.
- Balance machine revenue against the cost of building connectors and adding reservoirs.
- Finish with the most money to win.
Factory Fun combines spatial planning with economic decisions: every new machine can improve production, but its connections and supporting infrastructure also cost money. The challenge begins simply and becomes more demanding as available space and connections interact around the central pillar.
Originally published by Cwali in 2006 for 2–4 players, the game was later reprinted by Z-Man with components for up to five players. The Z-Man edition includes double-sided original and expert factory boards and Factory Fun Expansion 1, while a solitaire variant was also made available through Cwali’s website.
