About this board game

Fief: France is a dynastic strategy game for 3–6 players, with games lasting about 180 minutes. Set in the 15th-century kingdom of France, it challenges players to become the most powerful ruling force by controlling Fiefs and Bishoprics.

Each player guides up to four family members—male and female nobles—who can rise through Royal and Ecclesiastical titles. Control every village in a Fief to claim titles such as Baron, Earl, or Duke, earn victory points, and gain a voice in electing the next King. Family members may also enter the Church, becoming Bishops, Cardinals, or even Pope.

Diplomacy and marriage are central to success. Marrying a noble from another family creates an alliance, allowing both players to pursue a shared victory. Yet alliances can be undone through papal annulment, murder, or other unfortunate deaths, making every negotiation a potential turning point.

  • Develop income through taxes, Church tithes, mills, and purchased Fief titles.
  • Defend your lands with Men-at-Arms, Knights, Archers, Bombards, and fortified cities.
  • Use diplomacy, invasion, and family leadership to contest opposing territories.
  • Face changing fortunes through beneficial Bounty cards and disasters such as Plague, Famine, Heavy Rain, and Peasant Uprising.

When opposing armies meet, battles are resolved with dice based on army size and strength. Men-at-Arms fall to one hit, while Knights require three hits to remove, and family members leading forces risk death or capture.

In Fief: France, victory normally comes at 3 victory points, although a marriage alliance can produce a shared victory at 4 points. This edition includes the Fief: France 1429 game board, depicting villages, roads, eight Fiefs, and five Bishoprics across medieval France.
