Fields of Arle: Advent Calendar Expansion is a 2015 board game expansion for 1–2 players, with an approximately 120-minute play time. It contains two buildings and one vehicle inspired by the history and industry of East Frisia.

The expansion includes the Peat-Fired Brickworks, the Peat Power Plant, and the Coach-and-Four. These components reflect the region’s clay, peat, waterways, and long tradition of transportation and production.

East Frisia was well suited to brickmaking, with abundant easy-to-mine clay, peat for fuel, and many waterways for transporting goods. In the 19th century, Rheiderland alone—part of East Frisia along the river Ems—was home to 26 brick factories.

Today, only two brick factories remain in East Frisia. One is the peat-fired brick factory in Nenndorf, a neighboring village of Arle, and the only brick factory left in Europe that uses peat as fuel. Its 40-meter-long kiln burns up to three million bricks each year.

The Peat Power Plant recalls East Frisia’s abundance of peat and water. Built in Wiesmoor and opened in 1909, it supported moor colonization and produced electricity until 1965, burning up to 120,000 tons of peat annually. A greenhouse plantation built beside it in 1925 used the waste heat; unlike the power plant, that greenhouse is still operating and produces four million pot plants per year.
