About this expansion

Friesematenten: Die Schattenmänner is an expansion for 2–4 players that adds new card effects and marker-based possibilities to the Friesematenten game, with a play time of about 45 minutes.

Released by Amigo Spiele in 2011, this expansion requires the basic Friesematenten game from 2010 and cannot be played on its own. It introduces 60 new cards and 40 wooden markers, creating several ways for markers to enter play and influence the cards around them.

The markers are brought into the game through different card effects. Some cards enter play with markers already on them, while others produce markers during the production step. Certain action cards can also introduce markers, giving the expansion a variety of ways to add them to the game.

What a marker does depends on the card where it is placed. On action cards, markers can extend the card’s usefulness: an action may be executed several times by discarding a marker instead of discarding the card itself to pay for the action.

Other cards use markers to change their values, including features such as victory points or production. With its new cards and wooden markers, Friesematenten: Die Schattenmänner offers an additional layer of card-driven effects for players who already have the base game.
