About this board game

Galactic Era is an epic space strategy board game for 1–6 players, with sessions lasting about 180 minutes. Players explore, expand, develop civilizations, and engage in combat while pursuing peaceful or warlike paths to victory.

One of the game’s defining choices is alignment. Players can follow the Light or Dark side, each bringing different consequences and rules for interacting with other civilizations. Alignment can change during the game, allowing a faction’s approach to evolve over time.

Light factions may ally with advanced civilizations they encounter but cannot interfere with primitive civilizations. They are peaceful toward other Light players and remain peaceful toward Dark players unless attacked first. Dark factions can choose how peaceful or aggressive to be and may subjugate primitive planets.

Develop your civilization across five technology fields: Military, Spirituality, Propulsion, Robotics, and Genetics. Specializing in a single field can unlock epic powers at the highest level, while technology trading creates opportunities for cooperation with other players.

  • Choose from 17 unique factions, sometimes with different powers for each alignment.
  • Use hidden information and fog of war to conceal fleets and their tactical options.
  • Resolve combat deterministically, without dice, while fleet types interact in a Rock-Paper-Scissors fashion.
  • Pursue secret objectives that provide a surprise power and encourage varied strategies.
  • Experience highly variable setups that influence objectives.

With very little luck, Galactic Era emphasizes decisions, information, diplomacy, and calculated conflict. Its detailed background draws on secret space program whistle-blower testimony, UFO and extraterrestrial witness accounts, and channeled material.
