About this board game

Galileo’s Truth is a competitive board game for 1–4 players, with games lasting around 120 minutes. Set in 1610, it places you among scholars challenging ancient dogma as Copernican ideas and Galileo Galilei’s observations threaten accepted knowledge.

Develop your influence through a combination of deck building, worker placement, and resource management. Write Treatises to add cards to your deck, expanding your opportunities for powerful and articulate actions. Create Inventions to gain abilities, increase your income, and develop new scoring opportunities.

You can also Observe the Sky, unlocking a sequence of progressively stronger bonuses and actions. Every decision contributes to your pursuit of understanding, but every bold step may attract the attention of the Inquisition.

  • Write a Treatise: Add more cards to your deck and broaden your future options.
  • Create an Invention: Gain powerful abilities, improve income, and grow your scoring opportunities.
  • Observe the Sky: Progress through increasingly valuable bonuses and actions.
  • Manage Suspicion: Balance ambition against the dangers of ecclesiastical scrutiny.

Suspicion is central to the game. As it rises, you gain Penance cards that clog your deck and can provide negative points at the end of the game. More serious consequences may follow: you could be sent to jail, leaving you unable to use your only worker, or face the fire of purification.

The victory point track adds another layer of risk. Pulling ahead of your opponents increases your Suspicion, forcing you to decide whether to pursue the truth boldly or adopt a more cautious approach. In Galileo’s Truth, the fate of knowledge—and perhaps your life—rests on how far you are willing to go.
